SuitcaseFriends!  The Crossfit Games & Cali Drop ins

Aside from the sweet traps, washboard abs, sqaure jaws and thick thighs, the Crossfit community is arguably the best part of the Crossfit culture.  I have the authority to say this:  I travel, drop in, meet a variety of Crossfitters and the experience is generally the same: a welcoming group, looking to help where they can.  If you can imagine that this culture exists when you drop in to a gym with total strangers, imagine the connections you make with those you suffer with, week in and week out.

This is all a prelude to say thank THANK YOU.  I can take no credit for the write up that follows and must direct you to Ashley @aarnett3 (instagram).  She’s the be(a)st.  She and her motley crew took a week and change to attend the Crossfit Games and hit a number of local boxes in the process.

Take a read and a page out of her book if you’ve got your sights set The Games…as an attendee : )

2 good articles worth a quick read:

Stick to your nutrition goals!
You know I’m big on making travel work for your routine. A nice article to follow with suggestions.  They mention Crossfit boxes being a good source for health minded people and I’d wager that other forms of group fitness can offer similar insights. Whether it’s Soul Cycle, Fly Wheel or Orange Theory, you can always find suggestions and motivation from these places.

Combine Sprints and Weight Training for Accelerated Gains
Next, see this article about sprinting. Long story short, do it. Longer story, there’s more evidence that increasing your work capacity as suggested / popularized by Crossfit has many advantages beyond joining the sweet, sext spandex-clad cult I’m part of.

Happy trails!

Swamp Rabbit Crossfit – Greenville, SC – @swamprabbitcrossfit

An excessively delayed flight and a buddy living in Greenville, SC gave me an extra day to explore and drop in to Swamp Rabbit Crossfit.  All in all, this place has it down and makes business travel drop ins reallllly easy.

Crossfit Belmont – Charlotte, NC – @cfbelmont

After a brief stint as part of an internal team at my company, I’m back out in the field.  And that means more drop ins…and more t-shirts.  I could make a quilt at this point…

Back to Charlotte and thankful to stretch my catchment a little further west of the airport to land at Crossfit Belmont.  If you’re in and out of Charlotte, want to get a workout in with a nice bunch of folks and not be a sweaty mess on the return flight, CF Belmont is your answer.

Forever Young Crossfit – Orlando, FL – @foreveryoung_crossfit

Never has business travel felt like a vacation. Overwhelmingly, the credit goes to the coaches and members at Forever Young Crossfit for making my past 3 days in Orlando so enjoyable.

Albany Crossfit (@albanycrossfit) from @WanderingFitness – Albany, NY

@WandingFitness Here,

I recently headed to upstate New York for a little rest and relaxation and visited one of the earliest Crossfit Boxes in New York, Crossfit Albany. They have a long history opening their doors in 2007, before rogue fitness and even before the crossfit games as we know them today!

Gym

Located within The Racket Club, a racquetball club located in Albany New York. The place is Huge and has been growing since its inception. They have three separate spaces and run 10 classes a day every day of the week.

The main room has a ton of space with a great rig along one side and a variety of speal bars(my favorite). I only poked my head in the other rooms but one has a nice setup of oly platforms and squatting rigs.

Class:

I attended one of the AM classes(I don’t remember which), there were about 6 students.  The coach was young but very energetic, he walked us through a skill set and the workout of the day. Warm up was great, worked through each movement and he gave out a number of pointers. We started by finding our one rep max hanging snatch and then progressed to the W.O.D. It was a brutal combination of burpees, squat snatch and bar muscle ups… I was wiped!

Overall:

One of my favorite affiliates, Absolutely beautiful facility and a great history!!!! There are a number of outfits in Albany and this will be my goto next time I visit.
